Explore Chavni

Cresting the western edge of the Deccan Plateau, the mighty Sahyadris constitute a precious bio-diversity hotspot, whose panoramic valleys reverberate with echoes of the past…

Situated at the foothills of the Lohagad Fort Resort and Visapur Forts is Chhavani heritage, which beckons discerning travelers to indulge in heritage and bask in culture. Chhavani heritage commands a handpicked location, priding on its proximity to the ancient Satvahana Caves and the iconic trade route called Dakshinpath. This is a place where, in pre-colonial times, soldiers galloped on horseback; wealthy families traveled in liveried chariots; bullock cart caravans transported merchants’ goods; and ordinary citizens treaded the winding paths on foot.

These long and arduous journeys were made bearable by the ‘chavni’ or transit camp. Serving as a temporary shelter for troops and traders, the ‘chavni’ functioned as a serai, and was usually set up beside water bodies situated close to temples and caves.

The Chavni went out of the way to make our experience really memorable. When the reception team came to know that it was my daughter's birthday, they surprised us with special arrangements for dinner. Nicely decorated table and cake. That day there was a special performance on Sitar. The Chavni has a little steep terrain but don't worry the team helps you with buggy to take you here and there countless times. They have a guided jungle walk. Guided exhibition of rare collections. The exhibition even has Shri. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj written letter. Extremely well curated but well informed exhibition. Food is limited on spread. My personal opinion is that it's good. Because of the limited spread, everything that was served was of good quality and of authentic taste. Highly recommended place for adventure, leisure, historical value and extremely good services.
